The Hospital

The hospital was purpose built in 1996 and has continued to be developed since then to ensure that our facilities and equipment are constantly updated to provide the best possible service and care for your horse.

  • Radiography: We have a dedicated x-ray suite with powerful machines able to take high quality images. We were also only the fifth practice in the country to install an AGFA digital x-ray processor. This state of the art technology allows us, and you, to view the high definition pictures on a computer screen immediately. These images can then be copied onto CD, printed on to x-ray film or e-mailed to veterinary experts throughout the world if necessary. We regularly take x-rays for insurance purposes and are happy to do this either when we have carried out the pre-purchase clinical examination or on behalf of other practices. Also included in the radiography suite is a fluoroscope which enables us to see, in real time, accurate placement of needles in to structures such as the navicular bursa, deep within the foot.
  • Endoscopy: Our Olympus video endoscope system is largely used to image the nasal passageways, throat, lower airway and mouth, although in rarer circumstances is employed to view the inside of the bladder and uterus. As this is a video endoscope you are able to simultaneously observe with us, which not only adds to your interest, but also helps us to explain much more clearly what, if any problems there are.
  • Ultrasonography: We have a variety of ultrasound machines used for orthopaedic examinations such as scanning tendons, ligaments and joints; investigating medicine cases such as scanning abdominal or thoracic organs; and a portable machine for carrying out stud work and pregnancy diagnosis.
  • Surgical facilities: The operating theatre was completed in 2006 to enable us to expand the services we provide. Surgery is either performed by ourselves or by one of our consultant surgeons from the Royal Veterinary College

In addition to the more specialised facilities within the hospital its large area with non-slip flooring allows us to examine and treat horses in a safe and hygienic environment. If more restraint is required then stocks are also available.

There is also secure stabling for inpatients staying for surgical procedures or more lengthy investigations. If it is more convenient for you then horses can also be admitted as day patients.
